ABOUT ROHIT VYAS


Rohit Vyas is recognized as the longest-serving Indian American broadcast journalist in the USA with more than 40 years of experience. Over the course of his career he has covered the infancy and growth of the Indian American community, US politics and international affairs with a niche focus on US-U.S.-South Asia relations.

Currently working on a documentary with PBS as well as an independent broadcast journalist and analyst, Rohit was the principal anchor of TV ASIA NEWS, a nightly program seen throughout the United States and beyond for twenty-six years. As TV ASIA’s Senior Vice President and News Director, he created Face to Face, where he interviewed dignitaries from all over the world and Between the Lines, a moderated debate show.

Prior to that, Vyas was the principal news anchor and news director of Vision of Asia for six years. He is also the former editor of major newspapers, including India Abroad and News India, the focus of both being the Indian American diaspora in the United States since the 1970’s.

Vyas has traveled with world leaders including the White House media delegation during President Bill Clinton’s visit to South Asia, the Middle East, and Switzerland. Additionally, at the invitation of Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, Vyas became the first American journalist to be an official member of an Indian Prime Minister’s media delegation on his visit to the USA.

Vyas, known for his public speaking skills and sense of humor, has for several years been the Master of Ceremonies for the annual India Day Parade in New York City attended by thousands, the Dussehra festival in Long Island, also attended by thousands, the Annual Convention of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) and theannual Diwali Festival at New York City’s South Street Seaport. The host and emcee for various dignitaries, the recipient of several legislative and public honors, Rohit Vyas has long been respected by the South Asian American community as its voice and advocate for decades.
